EXHIBITION 1 ARCHIVE

RICHARD WYNWILLIAMS
Dogger, Fitzroy, Bight

28th - 30th May 2021
10am - 6pm
PV 28th May 6-9pm

D UNIT is proud to announce its first public exhibition in Bristol on the 28th May 2021 and subsequent public programme across the summer.

This initial programme focuses on the work of young artists and recent graduates, many of whom were unable to show their work at their degree shows in 2020. There are also pairings between them and established artists from across the UK which will take the form of conversational events and online live streams for each exhibition.

The inaugural exhibition features Richard WynWilliams unseen Arts University Bournemouth degree show "Dogger, Fitzroy, Bight" In which a series of videos explores a narrative set in an alternate society, one of scarcity and collapse, where chronological history has looped upon itself, and aesthetics and concepts from the past have been violently shifted into the present. The maritime history of the British Isles has been resurrected in a dystopian world defined by its lost cities and political extremism. Told as a memoir of a lone traveller, who's identity and even language disintegrates under the tensions of this shattered land.

The launch night will also feature a live procession through Bedminster with  Swansea born artist Bouys Bouys Bouys and WynWilliams which will start in Windmill Hill at 6pm ending at D UNIT for 7pm. The procession will be a collaborative exploration and a joyous spectacle, examining the intersection of working class Welsh folkculture, magic, and queer masculinity.

D UNIT has been initiated by artist Megan Broadmeadow and her partner Ed Metcalf with an aim to provide artist-led initiatives from Bristol based artists and exhibitions for UK based mid-career artists. They will also be running public workshops in practical work and digital skills over the winter months.

D UNIT’s exhibitions will take place over 3 days Friday -Sunday 10am - 6pm.  Private views will be on Friday evenings from 6 - 9pm.

The full list of artists for D UNIT’s first season is still being finalised but will include: Esmae Dougherty Price, SPUR.WORLD, Stephen Cornford, Harry Meadows, Abi Hubbard, Sami Green, Angus Macdonald, Molly Harcome, Ana Cvorovic,  Emily-Rose Millhouse and Megan Broadmeadow.
